Damn! Wish I were anywhere but here. Looks beautiful.
Handle every stressful situation like a dog; if you can't eat it or play with it, just pee on it and walk away. |

The orange containers are how NTCL moves freight on the open deck of the barges. The ships or tugs are used to push the barges. The small boat loaded on our
trailer belongs to DFO and was being hauled to Halifax. The barge on the other side of the river is a floating work camp that houses 200 people. Ntcl still has
about 9 more barge loads to get to the MGM site before the river freezes, They are running out of time quickly.

I find it amazing that way up there ya got more trees than we do here on the prairie of Illinois. The farmers are late in getting the corn out. Once harvest
is over I'll be able to look to the horizon without seeing a single tree.
When that happens I'll get out my camera and show you how barren it is between Chicago, IL and St. Louis, MO. Just last weekend I went down to Manito to run an errand. While there, I went in the general store to pickup a couple of tools. The proprietor was nowhere to be found. Finally I called out to see if anyone was in the deserted store. Nancy, the proprietor yelled back "just write down what ya got Joe and I'll settle up with you next time you're in town". Out I walked onto the deserted street at 10 am on Saturday morning. Not a single car in the road, just another sleepy morning in the middle of nowhere.

Ya Speed, when they settled these parts the prairie grass was so tall you couldn't see over it. Over 8 feet tall at times. There's a small area over
west of here that hasn't been disturbed in 130 years. damn prairie grasss is worse that getting lost in a Illinois corn field. From what I've been
told settlers moving through these parts were glad as hell to be rid of the prairie grass. Down by the river and hollows there's plenty of trees. It all
depends on the glaciers that came through here back when I was a wee lad.
