Your most certainly welcome Ken. I love history myself. I just came up with the idea today to compare how school was taught in the one room class way back when
as compared to today's school system. One thing they have in common is both parents did work even at home and the kids were still educated. Still working
on how to approach it just an idea for now.

Hideeho.
Looks like the IRT discussion has come to the end of the road..........at least, until the second season and/or re-runs start. Too bad I got in so late. Golf anyone?
Cheers. Ol' Sam. |

I'm a HC refuge who is looking for more information on the ice road truckers them self and how it all works. I realize that the "Show" is just
that and there are a lot of other things that go on. One of my simple questions is......do you get paid by the load per pound, trip, or a combination of both
for driving the ice road?

Akita01 wrote: There are a number of carriers paying the trucks on the road so the pay scale is varied . Some get paid by weight or axle configuration an a per mile basis and others are paid flat trip rates . The mines usually pay the carriers contracted on a per load basis plus a fuel surcharge which varies from week to week . Again there are probably about 5 or 6 carriers that pay differently .

Thanks realitycheck56 for the info. I had noticed that on the HC blog you had said that they were looking for a way to get cargo
delivered for less then 50 cents. a pound, is that an approximation of all that averaged out?

Do it (isnt that why you were hired???) Dont get cocky (you tend to screw up when your over confident) Dont screw up (means you have learned from other's mistakes) and your pot of gold (A.K.A. paycheck)will be there waiting for you when you have done so??? |

Right on Speedy! If you want to take big risks and all the worries and stress that go with it. Buy your own rig. If you just want to sit
behind a windshield and jam gears without a care in the world, then be a company driver. If you're late, screw-up, break or lose something, expect your
employer to be pissed, the money to make amends comes out of his pocket. He's the one with the big investment to protect. Be thankful you have a driving
job in N America and a big pay cheque to match, so you can buy all your free-time toys. Your lap-top computer for instance.......
RTL always paid us well and on time, at times to the personal detriment of his own familie's food and well being. RTL drivers were extremely loyal and often drove the extra mile. Look at me, still loyal over thirty years later.

You said "big paycheque" Ok so how, in your opinion, doe sone get this BIG pay check??? By staying at a company where your just a number and work up
that way? Going owner operator? Going to company where they ae driver oriented but don't pay all that much? or Working for mom and pop companies that know
who youare where you live and treat you good but has few miles? or anything else you can think of??? (No we haven't had much luck with he "name
brand" companies, the one small company we worked for still owes us but IRS shut them down, and when we were leasing a truck the costs were way too high
to make a profit on.)

I'm asking stupid questions causing agruments to gleem a little more information with zero background. Please I will try to ask in a way that doesn't
